SEEDS |

What to do when you have your seeds? Growing a sunflower from a seed is very easy. 1- First you put fine soil in a little flowerpot (a diameter of 10 cm/4 inch is enough). Fine soil is better then regular soil because it makes close contact with the seed. 2- Then you lay one seed on the soil and add another centimeter of soil on top of the seed. 3- Push it gently together and water with a fine shower. A gentle shower won´t disturb the contact between the seed and the soil. |
4- Put the flowerpot on a warm and sunny place but don´t let the soil dry out. If you cover the flowerpot with plastic it will create an even better atmosphere to sprout. 5- Wait for about 1,5 week and keep the soil moist, not soaked. 6- When the flower is about 10 cm high you can empty the flowerpot but leave the soil around the roots. A little sunflower separated from earth won´t grow for a while. 7- Now you can put the plant in your garden or in a bigger pot. |
And that is all. If you water the plant regularly and if there is a lot of sun she can grow quite big. In a good sunny year up to 4 mtr/13 feet! Personally I always plant the flower a little lower then the surrounding soil. It creates a hole which collects water. Very handy. Another suggestion is to put the flower somewhere where she can be supported and protected against the wind. Probably not every seed will open but there will be enough. Good luck! |
